Luna and the Shimmer Bubbles
Luna the dragon loved making bubbles. Not ordinary bubbles — shimmer bubbles that glowed like tiny moons and could carry things inside them. She would puff out her breath, soft and careful, and watch the bubbles wobble into the sky. 'Pip-pip-pip!' called her friend Pip the squirrel, bouncing on his branch. 'Make me a big one!' Luna puffed a bubble just the right size. Pip leaped inside with a happy squeak, and off he floated — over the treetops, past the old stone bridge, all the way to the meadow where wildflowers grew as tall as trees. When the bubble touched down and popped with a gentle 'bloop,' Pip would scamper back with stories that made Luna's eyes shine. But whenever Pip asked, 'Want to come with me next time?' Luna would shake her head and dig her claws deeper into the ground. The next morning, Pip had an idea. 'Let's try the Whispering Woods!' he chattered. Luna puffed an extra-shimmery bubble, and Pip dove in. This time the bubble sailed through branches that hummed like songs, where silver leaves tinkled like tiny bells. When he returned, Pip's eyes sparkled with magic. 'The trees sang your name, Luna! They want to meet you!' But Luna just smiled and stayed exactly where she was, her wings folded tight against her back. Day after day, the bubbles carried Pip to more wonderful places. The Crystal Cave, where every wall sparkled like stars. The Giggling Brook, where the water actually laughed. The Cloud Garden, where flowers grew right out of the sky. Each time, Pip would bounce back with new stories, and each time he'd ask, 'Come with me tomorrow?' And each time, Luna would shake her head a little faster. Then one windy afternoon, Luna puffed the most beautiful bubble yet — huge and glowing like a pearl. Pip jumped in and waved as it lifted off. But the wind was stronger than Luna had ever felt. It pushed and pulled the bubble higher and higher, further and further away. 'Luna!' Pip's voice grew smaller and smaller. 'I can't get down!' The wind carried him past the clouds, past the birds, until he was just a tiny speck of shimmer in the endless blue. Luna's heart pounded. She spread her wings — they felt wobbly and strange. She had never, ever used them before. The ground seemed so safe, so solid beneath her feet. But up there, way up there, Pip needed her. She closed her eyes, thought of his cheerful 'Pip-pip-pip!' and pushed off from the earth. Her wings caught the air — bumpy and scary and not at all like walking. The wind that had stolen Pip away now lifted her too, carrying her up, up, up. She flew crooked and clumsy, her heart hammering, but she flew. When she reached Pip's bubble, it was starting to fade. She puffed gently, adding her breath to make it strong again. Then together — Luna flying for the very first time, Pip safe in his shimmer bubble — they drifted home through the soft evening sky. Down below, the whole world looked small and peaceful, like a story someone might tell. Luna's wings felt steadier now, carrying both of them toward the place where her favorite tree waited. When they landed, Pip hopped out and hugged her nose. 'You flew, Luna! You really flew!' And Luna discovered something wonderful — her wings might still feel wobbly, but next to Pip, everything felt just right. From that day on, they traveled together. Sometimes in bubbles, sometimes wing by wing, always heading toward the next adventure that waited just beyond the clouds.
